silica crystal gel cat litter makes a cheap powder to kill bedbugs. You don’t need anything else. Bedbugs are easy to kill because they MUST come to your bed in order to develop and reproduce. This powder is the dirt cheapest way to kill them. Silica gel is the main ingredient of Drione. You don’t need anything except the silica gel cat litter ground to a fine fine powder. It sticks to the bed bugs and dries them up. Don’t be fooled by anyone else. You can buy a bag of silica gel cat litter, powder it and scatter it mainly on and around the bed and mattress. A bag of silica gel cat litter can treat a whole apartment building for about $15 Can. You don’t need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars for pesticides or an exterminator. You can however mix the silica gel powder you make with pesticides to get a better effect. I prefer propoxur because it has a residual effect for about a month. Pyrethrins break down in air in a couple of days. Powdered silica gel also kills roaches and many other insects. To test silica gel get one of those little packets of dessicant that says “throw away, don’t eat”. Crush it to a fine powder and put it in a container with a couple of bedbugs and they will be dead in a couple of hours(be sure some powder is on the bedbugs.) The silica gel in the packet is the same stuff as the silica gel cat litter. Don’t be deceived. Don’t tear apart your bedroom they will come to your bed. DON’T bother laundering everything or vacuuming. Don’t waste your time. They will hunt YOU down. Let them come to YOU. You will NEVER find them all anyway. They have to feed on blood to become adults. Focus on treating the bed areas. Bedbugs will suck your blood while you sit in front of your computer, day or night. They have bitten my feet.
Silica gel powder can also be used to dry flowers.

Amorphous silica gel is not toxic. Silica gel in the packets sometimes has added poison and that is why it says “don’t eat.” If silica gel were poisonous would they use it for cats? No. Grind up the beads in a desiccant packet and test it in a container with a few bedbugs. They will be dry and dead within hours.
these can kill bedbugs cheaply, except for the cement you have to grind the items in the video to a fine, fine powder. The diatom filter powder will work as is but it would be better if it is ground to a finer powder. these are common or cheap items, silica gel is the main ingredient in Drione, other bed bug powders contain silica gel powder or diatomaceous earth. Even sand ground to a fine fine powder may work. These powders stick to the exoskeleton of the bedbug, absorb its lipids and then allows it to dehydrate in hours. (The cement may take a couple of days to work.) Test these items by putting the powder you make into a container with the bedbugs and in a couple of hours they will be dehydrated and dead.(The cement will take a couple of days.)
Mix the powders with a little insecticide(except the cement) if you want. I have to admit that I miss the bedbugs. I had fun experimenting with the powders. Now the bedbugs are all dead and the experimental fun is over.
Think about this. Drione dust is silica gel powder and pyrethrins. The pyrethrins are only effective for a couple of days because they break down in air and then all that is working is the silica gel. Silica gel is all you need.
Silica gel powder can also be used to dry flowers.

This is how we defeated the invincible bedbug.
This is cheap and easy. You can make your own insecticide dust by mixing in a little pesticide. I used propoxur because it has a residual effect lasting up to a month. Pyrethrin type insecticides break down in air in a couple of days. If that is all you have use it, however you don’t need the insecticide THE SILICA GEL POWDER WORKS ALL BY ITSELF. If you want to test silica gel then find a small packet of silica gel desiccant that is commonly packed with lots of products to absorb moisture. Crush up the beads in the packet to a fine powder and put it in a container along with a couple of bedbugs. The powder will stick to the bedbugs and will dehydrate them. They will be dead in a couple of hours.
The silica gel in the packet of dessicant is the same as the silica gel cat litter.(Kills roaches too)
The silica gel cat litter is fairly soft and easy to crush to a powder. Make it softer by soaking it in water. As you crush it the water will evaporate.
You can also use cement powder, aquarium diatom filter powder(Vortex or any brand). All the bedbugs in our house are dead but I had wanted to try tile grouts and plaster powders and even powdered sand or anything that will dry out bedbugs. The key substance for killing bedbugs is fine silicon dioxide powder. You guys experiment and let me know your results.
Bedbugs are cannot become resistant to these powders that dry them out, get in their joints and wear holes in their exoskeleton. Even if pesticides fail to kill them they will always be susceptible to the physical action of silicon dioxide powders.
Silica gel powder can also be used to dry flowers.
