Hello fellow cat lovers,

So you’ve got cats? Let me start off with our story. We are a family of 6 people, 2 adults four kids and currently 10 cats. Yes that is not a typo 10 cats.

A few years back we decided that it would be fun to have a cattery and sell kittens. That does sound like fun doesn’t it?? Please don’t judge us. We love animals:)

We’ve owned cats, dogs, hamsters, rats, peacocks, chickens. We’ve also rescued many animals over the years, bunnies, raccoons, mice and recently a woodchuck.

So while we love animals and specifically cats, we don’t love the odors that having cats who reside with us create, by having 7 cat litter boxes. In fact there is nothing much worse than cat pee. Ok maybe skunks are worse, but cat pee is still awful!

As you can imagine what comes with a cattery is a lot of cat box odor, and while we loved raising the kittens for 6 years, when we finally decided to stop breeding, we were left with 10 full grown cats. If you’re anything like me the smell of cat urine is intolerable.

We had been through the whole gamut of different options that are available for use in eliminating kitty litter odors. You know, automatic cat litter scoopers, every conceiveable brand of cat litter, like Tidy Cat Litter and on and on. Nothing was working that well.

Yes when you changed the kitty litter boxes it would stop the cat urine odors briefly, that is until one of the cats would use the clean cat litter pans. Yipes here we go again, smelly house! Phoebe from Friends could have wrote a song about our house: Smelly house, Smelly house, oh what a Smelly  house.

Finally after being tortured for way too long with cat urine odor. We had had enough. After thoroughly thinking through this situation, we hatched a plan and came up with a completely brilliant idea. It was pure genius and need I say it again, brilliant! If it worked it would completely eliminate all of our cat urine ordor problems and our house would be once again back to smelling like a clean house should.

Luckily for you our brilliant cat eliminating odor plan worked. In fact it worked so beautifully that when you step into our house you would never suspect that we have 7 kitty litter boxes. The only giveaway would be that you would probably see various cats either sitting or lounging around the house as cats are known to do.

We decided that it wasn’t fair to the rest of the world to keep this completely brilliant and genius product to ourselves. After all we know better than most what cat pee is all about. So because of this we’ve put together a kit that you can purchase and thus you’ll be able to finally eliminate 100% of any kitty litter box odor that you have in your house. We call it Litter Vent

If you can’t take the cat urine odor anymore and would like to get your house back to smelling nice, this is the way to go. We guarantee that it will work for you, just like it does for us.

Please feel free to leave any comments about how fantastic you think Litter Vent is. We love accolades. Well obviously, duh.

Oh and one last thing, you’ll even be able to hide your cat litter furniture boxes under a table in your living room or kitchen or even your bedroom and no one will be the wiser, you won’t even remember it’s there. Just remember to be a good cat owner and change the litter regularly. Cats will take exception to having a really dirty litter box, so even though you won’t be smelling any odors, the litter box still needs to be changed.

What cat litter Controls odor the best?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat litter odor

I am thinking about taking care of a cat for an old man that I met, since he cant take care of the cat anymore. My parents said I have to put the litter box in my room (eww I know) and i don’t want my room smelling like cat pee all the time. So, what is the best kitty litter to control the odor? are there any other tricks to controling the odor?

I care for 12 adult cats. The litter I like is a lightly pine scented, dust free, corn based litter. It is clumping, works great on odors.
It is Natures Miracle.

Get a good size litter box. Clean the piles out everyday to keep it smelling fresh.
I like to add a can full of litter on top of the old once a day. You may not need to add it every day.
After a couple of months, you can change all the litter, if you want and start with all fresh but that is not really necessary if you keep up with cleaning the piles out everyday.

Use a slotted litter scoop to remove the piles (pee & poo) and place in a bag. Take outside immediately. Do not leave the bag of used litter in your room as that will smell up the place too.

Once every couple of weeks, I also wipe down the sides of the box with papertowel and spray cleaner. I use windex or one of the cat odor sprays. Both work well.

This litter tracks a bit (as most do) but is dust free which is nice in a bedroom. All the clay litters will leave dust around your room, even the 99.9% dust free litters.
You can catch some of the tracked litter by placing a small rug under the box that the cat will step on when he exits.

If you cannot find this litter, look for a corn based litter, or other non-clay litter.

What can I do to reduce the odor from a cat box/litter box?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat litter odor

We live in an apartment and have two cats, we have to keep the litter box under our stairs, which is right by the door to our apartment, so when you walk in all you smell is litterbox!

Use scoop away litter and clean it everyday. Put an air freshner near the litter box too. Scoop away is the best and everything clumps up nice for easy scooping.

Puppy Potty Training 101

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat litter odor

The biggest concern of people who have adopted a new puppy is potty training. Traditionally, this involves leashing or chaining your puppy to go outside or teaching him to use a certain area in the yard. The trick is getting them to let you know when they have to go. The other problem is what happens when the puppy is left home alone for extended periods of time. There are a lot of accidents, which proves to be frustrating for everyone involved.

For owners of small breed dogs and those who live in apartments or have a confined area for the their puppy outside, however, there is another option. You can train your puppy to go in a designated spot in your house, even when you are not home. This method is called litter training or (house training) and is similar to what cat owners use.

Introduce Puppy Slowly

Your puppy is already adjusting to new surroundings and being away from his pack. You should introduce everything to him as slowly as you can so that he is comfortable and not scared by anything. When you introduce the crate to your puppy, for example, you should first get him used to being in it for short periods of time, without leaving him alone just yet. Place your hand in the crate and let him know that it is a safe place to be. Let him go in and out at his leisure at first and progress from there with short segments of time when he is left alone in the crate. Making him feel comfortable in his new surroundings will make it a smooth transition.

Consistent Feedings

One key to training a new puppy is to provide consistent feedings. This will help in a number of ways. First, he will know when to expect his food. You will know when to expect him to have to go potty. Leaving a full bowl out all day will not allow you to have as much control over the situation. Once he has eaten, remove leftover food and take him to the spot you want him to go potty. He should be ready to use the litter box within 20 minutes after eating, so this is an important time to watch him carefully and help him succeed.

Puppy Training Pads

There are numerous brands of puppy training pads on the market. They are made for housebreaking puppies and creating indoor dogs. They block odor and protect your floors. They are easy to dispose of and make cleanup a breeze. Simply take your puppy to the pad when he needs to go potty. With the right encouragement, the puppy will begin to use it with more frequency.

Dog Liter

Similar to kitty litter, dog litter is also available. This is another useful aid in potty training your puppy indoors. Purchase a good size kitty litter box and fill it with a small amount of the dog litter. Use the same approach you would with the training pads, encouraging him to use the litter box and praising him when he does. Put the litter tray in a spot that is comfortable for your puppy. Dog litter will cut down on odor problems as well. When placed inside of the larger cage, as described above, it is especially convenient. Just be sure to keep the cage and the litter box clean for your puppy.

Crate Training

By slowly adjusting your puppy to a crate, you will be able to have more control over when and where your puppy urinates. Two methods work well in conjunction with the cage. The first plan is to have your puppy in a small crate whenever you are not home or are unable to keep a close eye on him. Immediately let him use the litter are when you take him out of the crate. This will teach him bladder control and keep him from using your entire house as a litter box. The second plan is to have one large cage with a comfortable area on one side and the litter box on the other side. This works especially well for puppies left alone for long periods of time on a regular basis. This is a lifesaver for the working pet owner. It allows for the puppy to go when he has to go. He doesn’t have to wait for you to let him out. There isn’t any punishment necessary, in this case, and makes it easier for you to spend time playing with your puppy rather than scolding him when you come home.

Praise and Rewards

The best way to ensure your puppy will adapt to the new training method is to provide consistent praise when he does what you want him to do. When your puppy eliminates on the pad or in the litter, give him plenty of attention and encouragement. Treats can also be offered as a way to support the positive behavior. The key with offering treats is to be consistent and offer praise each time.

Benefits of Indoor Training

By training your puppy to eliminate indoors, in his designated area, there will be less mess and fewer accidents. There will be no need to worry about accidents when you are away because your puppy will have a safe place to go potty. There won’t be messes outside for you to pick up after and you can simply dispose of the training pad or scoop the liter. Your puppy’s health is another benefit. Some annual vaccinations may be unnecessary if you puppy remains indoors. Your dog’s overall health will be better and you could save on costly veterinarian expenses.

Enjoy Your Puppy

Puppies are like children; they only stay small for a short time. This should be an enjoyable time for you and your puppy. Don’t let potty training and accidents ruin this fun and exciting time. Puppies are social animals and don’t like being isolated, so the quicker they are trained, the less time they will need to spend in the crate and the more enjoyable they will be as a pet. Play with your puppy, give him lots of attention and be consistent with whichever method of training you choose.

Finding the Right Litter Box for Your Cat

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat litter odor

Cat litters used in the olden days, meaning prior to the commercial cat litters now found in neighborhood grocery stores, are literally litters. Usually these were dirt gathered from gardens.

Now, there are a variety of cat litters to choose from. These cat litters, for the most part, are great for the cat as well as good for the environment.  The following are tips and advice to make better a cat owner’s selection of the best litter possible for their cats.

Choose wisely

The choice of cat litters should primarily be based on how much this litter will affect the environment just as how much such litter is preferred by cats. Although cats really do not care much about how the litter may soon end up in a landfill, cats really prefer if their litter has no bad scent. They also care if the litter feels good.

Cats have a very keen sense of smell, so it is important that litters have little or no scents that are made artificially. It is also best if the litter contains no dust. It will do cats no good if their noses are irritated since they will try to avoid going thru the litter if it displeases them in any way.

Ask wisely

Cats love the feel of sand with pellets or any surface that has shreds and bits of chunks. It is best that a cat owner know which kind his or her cat prefers.

But to further help a confused cat owner decide, questions such as the following should be best asked:

Is the cat litter easily flushed in the toilet? Is it free from odors? Does the litter contain any form of perfumes or chemicals? Is the litter safe for the cat, the owner, the environment? Does the cat like the feel of the litter? How much does it cost and is it easily accessible?

Be aware

There are environment-friendly litters that are made from newspapers that are recycled. These types of litters can be easily flushed, can easily be burned and are almost a hundred percent free from dust.

There are also litters that came from plants. These litters usually come from corn - its husks, the cob and the corn itself. Byproducts of wheat such as wheat grass are also a source of cat litter.

But the best among all of these are the corn cobs because they are odorless as well as it control odor. It is absorbent as well. They also do not produce a lot of dust and are easily flushed.

Litter from pine and sawdust

These types of litter are also biodegradable. They are made by drying and compressing them into pellet-forms. They absorb moisture a number of times more than their weight until they break down again into natural sawdust. Due to their easily absorbent nature, any odor is naturally eliminated.

Be wary though, pine has natural resins and chemicals that aid in the elimination of insects and odor-causing bacteria because of its insecticide-like properties. This same feature could also cause respiratory damage as well as asthma and allergies. Humans as well as cats may easily be susceptible to such allergens.

Do not be afraid of odor

Odor is one way by which nature tells the un-aware cat owner that it is time to replace the litter. Cat litter should be regularly changed so that bacteria or micro-organisms will not collect in it. If odor persists check the diet your cat is consuming as that may also be the cause.

Cats and Clay

Clay is the most common type of litter being used today. A specific kind of clay made of sodium bentonite has a special feature that when it is urinated on by cats a clump is formed making it more convenient to remove the clumps from the litter. However, such  clay is carcinogenic and is easily absorbed by the lungs of cats.

All in all, the choice depends on the cat owner’s preference, budget and favorites. After all, cats are everyone’s best fuzzy, soft, cuddly and gentle meowing friends.

What cat litter should I use to control odor?

Posted by: admin  :  Category: cat litter odor

My cat keeps peeing on my bed everytime her litter box is smelly because I was at work all day. I am using Swheat and like it bc it is natural and flushes but I dont think it covers odor every well. She is great on the weekends when I am around to clean the litter box often but what is a better brand to use? I did take her to the vet she DOES NOT have a uti!

My brand of choice is Fresh Step. I use sifting liners. They are so convenient, all you have to do is gather up the edges, and lift, hold it over the box so the clean litter can sift through the holes, and toss the liner with clumps in a grocery sack, tie it up and dispose.
Since it is because you are at work all day and cannot clean the box, I agree that giving her a second litter box will probably solve the problem. It is the waste itself, more than the odor, that she finds disgusting. Wouldn’t you find it revolting to have to walk through your own waste to use the bathroom?
Try closing your bedroom door when you are gone to help break the habit. It could also be that she is mad you leave her alone all day, and that is her way of communicating it. Turn on the tv and leave animal planet on for her, that pacifies our pets (although my cat seems to prefer the Weather channel, I don’t know why, lol). Some new toys, or even a little playmate might help if it is caused by boredom.
Good luck!
