Cat Litter Boxes Blog

My cat is about one year old, male, seal point and his litter tray is kept clean but still he poops on the furniture and poops on the floor near his litter tray, we have no idea why he keeps on doing it on the floors. His litter tray is cleaned daily but he still does it on the floor and furniture. Any idea why he isnt doing it in his litter tray?

I don’t want to harm the environment or other animals, but, from what I can tell, cat litter (tidy cat) isn’t a synthetic substance. I don’t see any immediate reason why I can’t dump old cat litter (minus the urine and stools) in the woods behind my house. Is there any standard of environmental safety that says I shouldn’t?

Tidy Cat is mostly clay, but by dumping in the woods, even with scooping things out, you introduce bacteria and other things that are not normal to the environment. Yes, other wildlife c**ps in the woods, but the litter being dumped concentrates things in a small location.

If you have few municipal trash pick up services in your area, then burying it could be an option. Not my option, but it can be considered.

This is our first kitten. he is 8 weeks old. we have had him for about 5 days. he now pees on the furniture. I lay me clothes out he climbs on the bed a pees on them. you can tell right away when he does this just by the smell. he does use the litter box

You should take your cat to a cinic were they spay and neuter that way they can tell you wen its the right time to spay or neuter your cat.
Because that normal of them to do.

I’m getting a kitten in 11 days and have purchased two litter boxes. I was planning to keep one downstairs and one upstairs in my room since I shut the door at night. Would this idea be a bit too much for the kitten? I figure it would take some time getting used to for her but it’s what I think would be best.

As long as she knows where they are, that’s fine. They usually catch on pretty fast.

My dad has been bugging me lately about how if the cat poos or pees, the stink is unbearable.

I told him there is such thing as odor-repelling cat litter, but he won’t believe me! Like everything that happens, he blames the animal! So, for those with odor-repelling cat litter, what does it smell like? (&what brand)

Even if you have a product that claims to be the best odor-repelling cat litter ever created, cat poo is still gonna stink after it’s laid. Cats have a distinctive poo odor because of the high protein in their diets. There’s just no way to cover up the stink of poo. There is, however, a way to reduce the stink of poo, and that’s to feed your cat a good quality canned food diet without nasty fillers. The more nasty fillers the food has (animal by-products, corn, gluten, soy, cellulose, etc.) the more your cat is gonna poo and the stinkier it’s going to be because he’s pushing out more waste and it’s going to smell.

Try a natural litter, which lasts longer, is better for your cat, and smells fresher longer. World’s Best Cat Litter is aptly named, it really is the best cat litter out there (I’ve tried several different brands–Tidy Cats, Arm and Hammer, Swheat Scoop, etc.). It’s made out of porous corn bits that suck up odor. I never smell cat pee (and his litter box is in my bedroom). You’d be surprised how much a bag lasts. It seems expensive at first but you don’t have to change out the box as much. As for the smell, it really has no odor except when you first pour it (and then it just smells grainy, like dried corn kernels).
