First is he spraying the furniture? or is he squatting on it? If he's squatting, take him to the vet and have him checked out for a bladder infection. Bladder infections in males are very serious.
If he's marking his territory, you'll need to hire a cat behaviorist. I had to do this recently with 4 fixed female cats that were marking their territory. Here are some hints that I learned:
Purchase cat trees, about 2 or three and put them in separate spaces in the house - cats need vertical space
Purchase a training litter - it's only a couple bucks more expensive than the regular litter you buy.
Scoop both litter boxes two times a day.
For about a month increase your litter boxes to one more box than cats you own.
Make sure your litter boxes have a foot of walking space around them and don't have a cover on them (cat's like to see their territory while being in an incapacitated mode)
Play with your male each night in the place that he pees (this will take a while) when he "kills" his toy (after about 15 minutes), give him a treat - this part takes the longest, but it does eventually work. Cat's won't hunt or kill or eat where they mark - so if you can get him to eat and kill, he'll not mark it as he won't want to tell anyone else where his hunting ground is - I know it sounds backwards, but it's cat logic, not human logic.
Spray kitty pheromone spray twice a day where he marks. It releases a different type of marking scent, and he will be more likely to start rubbing the furniture with his face to mark, vs peeing.
All this takes a while, but it does work. If you have the money, hiring a behaviorist phone consultant (between 100 and 200 dollars) is well worth the investment.

cat litter boxes
A movie of my Smart Scoop self-cleaning cat litter box in action (www.smartscoop.com). Before I bought mine I hoped someone had a real video with sound but there were none, only the professional commercial done by the company. So here’s mine! The white powdery stuff on the inner surface of the box is a nonstick spray called Stink free, which helps prevent litter from sticking to the box. The litter featured is Dr. Elsey’s Precious cat Ultra (World’s Best Cat Litter also works well). I compared this litter box alongside the Littermaid Mega (LM900) and the Littermaid Elite Mega, the Smart Scoop is much quieter than both Littermaids. When the litter cabinet is closed, I can’t really hear more than a hum, I am a light sleeper in a 1 bedroom apartment and it does not wake me up at night. SmartScoop is also about half the price of the Littermaid (sold on Amazon for $70). The company is mailing out free upgrade kits if you buy one and it has a silver colored rake with 20 tines, they will send you a new more powerful motor, a new rake with more tines, and a couple other small items that make the box work better. Unfortunately my digital camera only takes short clips.
